Very Reverend Nicolae Marioncu
Fallen Asleep in the Lord

On Sunday, November 1, 2009, the Very Reverend Father Nicolae Marioncu fell asleep in the Lord after a long illness. He had been retired since 1998 and lived in Russell, Manitoba, Canada.

Born on February 9, 1927 to Andrei & Maria Netu Marioncu in Glogoni, Panchevo, Yugoslavia, he attended the State Teacher’s College in Varset and then studied at St. Sava Theological Seminary in Belgrade (1946-49).  He married Maria Dragila in 1948 and they had three daughters: Ophelia, Anna and Elena. Preoteasa Maria fell asleep in the Lord in 1989. On August 19, 1949, he was ordained to the Holy Diaconate and then On August 21, 1949 to the Holy Priesthood by Metropolitan Visarion (Kostich).

Fr. Marioncu served many parishes during his priesthood of over 50 years including the following: Europe - St. Dimitrie (Kushchitsa), Archangel Gabriel (Zagaitga), St. Nicholas (Dolovo); United States - St. Nicholas (Worcester MA), Holy Trinity (Miami FL), St. John the Baptist (Woonsocket RI); Canada – St. Elijah (Lennard MB), Holy Trinity (MacNutt SK), St. John the Baptist (Shell Valley MB), Sts. Peter & Paul (Canora & Blue Wing SK), Sts. Peter & Paul  (Flintoft SK) / Descent of the Holy Spirit (Assiniboia SK).

In 1989, Fr Marioncu was elevated to be the Administrative Dean of Western Canada and then Dean of Canada in 1990.  Besides these duties, which he faithfully fulfilled, often providing services to far-flung parishes in extremely difficult weather conditions, Fr. Nicolae also provided the tipic to the Episcopate Office for publication in the annual Solia Calendar Almanac for the order of services to be followed during each calendar year.

His Eminence, Archbishop Nathaniel, with the clergy of the Deanery of Canada and all the clergy of the Episcopate, lift their prayers to Almighty God for the blessed repose of His servant, the Archpriest Nicolae.  May his memory be eternal!
