What an unforgettable day of fellowship, energy, and community! On Saturday, July 11, the Anchor youth initiative continued its vibrant journey with the Faith in Motion Youth Meetup at Lambert Willson Park in Aurora. Following the incredible momentum of our inaugural Youth Day at the Cathedral at Saint George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto on June 6, this second major gathering brought together around 30 young adults from across the ROEA Central Canada Deanery to build lasting bonds and celebrate our shared faith.
The day kicked off with an artistic breeze as we pedaled along the beautiful Nokiidaa Trail. True to its Ojibwe name meaning “walking together,” the trail offered a peaceful backdrop of lush wetlands, quiet boardwalks, and the winding East Holland River. Coasting through patches of shaded forests and scenic meadows, everyone rode side-by-side, sharing laughs and taking in the stunning beauty of God’s creation.
After working up an appetite, the group enjoyed a fantastic lunch and refreshments lovingly prepared by the host parish, “Holy Forty Martyrs” in Aurora. The wonderful food provided the perfect boost for the afternoon’s deeply meaningful Faith Hour Q&A.
Led by Fr. Florian Ene and supported by Deacon Cristian Zamrii, the discussion dove deep into the real- world challenges young Orthodox Christians face today. Our youth asked raw, critical questions about navigating faith items in a modern society that often pushes religion aside or rejects spiritual dialogue altogether. Fr. Florian and Deacon Cristian provided powerful guidance on how to combat the modern epidemic of loneliness. They emphasized the vital importance of anchoring oneself in a strong community, loving families, and true friends who support you with authentic Christian advice.
The energy flew even higher during our outdoor interactive activities! We tested our cinematic knowledge with an emoji-based movie guessing competition. Things got incredibly creative during our summer photography challenge, where teams snapped hilarious pictures reenacting iconic scenes from early 2000s children’s shows like Franklin, Scooby-Doo, Winnie the Pooh, Arthur, and The Backyardigans. We also tested our coordination with a competitive “Footsteps” (5-Legged Race) team-building activity, where groups of five had to strap their ankles together, communicate, and walk completely in sync across the field!
Throughout the day, many participants proudly wore their favorite sports jerseys to celebrate Canada’s decent run in the ongoing Soccer World Cup. To top it all off, a group of young people wrapped up the perfect day by gathering in the social-cultural room of the Holy 40 Martyrs Church to watch a live World Cup soccer match together.
A massive thank you to all the participants, the organizers from Aurora, and everyone who captured so many amazing pictures! This is just the beginning for our young adult community.
Looking Ahead!
