Romanian Orthodox Vicariate of Canada
The Romanian Orthodox Vicariate of Canada (R.O.V.O.C.) is a regional ecclesiastical body within the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America (ROEA), an archdiocese of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). It serves the Romanian Orthodox faithful throughout Canada, supporting the spiritual, pastoral, administrative, missionary, and educational life of the parishes and communities entrusted to its care.
The Vicariate functions under the pastoral oversight of His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel (Popp), Archbishop of Detroit and of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, who serves as Chairman. Its work is carried forward with the assistance and guidance of His Grace Bishop Andrei (Hoarște) of Cleveland, Auxiliary Bishop of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, who serves as Vicar.
The Romanian Orthodox Vicariate of Canada is formed by three deaneries: the Eastern Deanery, the Central Deanery, and the Western Deanery. Together, these deaneries include almost 35 parishes and missions throughout Canada. Through this regional structure, the Vicariate is able to coordinate parish life more effectively, encourage cooperation among clergy and faithful, and respond to the pastoral and administrative needs of Romanian Orthodox communities across the country.
Through its ministry, the Vicariate seeks to strengthen the Orthodox Christian faith, preserve the Romanian spiritual and cultural heritage, and encourage the growth of parish life among Romanian Orthodox communities in Canada. It provides support in areas such as clergy and parish administration, missionary outreach, catechetical and educational programs, youth and family ministry, liturgical life, and the coordination of regional initiatives.
As part of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America and the Orthodox Church in America, the Romanian Orthodox Vicariate of Canada continues the mission of the Orthodox Church by proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, fostering unity among the faithful, and supporting the life and witness of Romanian Orthodox parishes and missions across Canada.
